Narcotics are substances or drugs that are natural, synthetic, or semi-synthetic that cause the effects of decreased consciousness, hallucinations, and excitability. On December 7, 1987, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) designated June 26 as International Anti-Narcotics Day. The June 26 election was based on the revelation of the opium trade case in Humen, Guangdong, China, by Lin Zexu, an official during the Qing Dynasty. Wayne Gerard Trotman said that, "Happiness is not found at the bottom of a bottle or from the tip of a needle, it cannot be found amidst clouds of smoke or in sugar-coated pills. If you look for it in these places, you will find it futile but desperate."

To find out more about narcotics, the types of narcotics are divided into 3 groups, namely: a). Class I narcotics: Narcotics that are only used for scientific purposes, and not for therapy. has a very high potential to cause dependence. Examples: opiates (heroin, putaw, opium), marijuana (cannabis, marijuana, hashish) and cocaine. b). Class II narcotics: Narcotics that are efficacious for treatment are used as a last resort and can be used in therapy or scientific development purposes and have a high potential to cause dependence. Examples: morphine, petidin. c). Class III narcotics: Narcotics used in therapy or scientific development purposes and have mild potential to cause dependence. Example: codeine.

Based on this presentation, the impact of narcotics use, namely: 1). Being excluded in society and good association. In addition, usually drug addicts will be anti-social. 2). Causes psychological and physical disorders such as mental depression, mental disorders, suicide, various crimes, and disorders of organs. 3). Learning opportunities are lost and may be expelled from school or college (drop out). 4). Subject to imprisonment in accordance with Constitution No. 35 of 2009.

Next are the signs of drug addiction, namely: a). Physical changes, body looks thin, dry and red eyes, dilated pupils, lack of focus, pale face and hair loss. b). Mood and emotional swings that are very labile and can change at any time. c). Potential to commit crimes. d). Depression and euphoria. e). Irregular appetite and sleep patterns.

Therefore, to avoid the use of narcotics early, as for self-prevention efforts from narcotics, namely: 1). Remember and obey the advice of parents. 2). Do positive activities such as sports or joining certain organizations. 3). Avoid curiosity to try drugs, if you have problems find a safe way out and do not use drugs as an escape to forget the problem. 4). Know the adverse effects of drug use for physical and mental health.
