What is Futsal World Cup
Futsal is a sport that is played and has basic techniques that are similar to playing soccer, it's just distinguished by the field and some adjustment rules. The futsal world cup is a world championship in the field of futsal sports. This championship invites various countries from every continent to participate in winning the trophy as the king of world futsal later. This tournament is held in a span of 4 years just like the football world cup event.
History of the Futsal World Cup
The championship is held every four years, precisely in the even-numbered year between the two FIFA World Cups. The first event took place in 1989, the year FIFA became futsal's international governing body. This event was held in the Netherlands to celebrate the popularity of futsal there. Until the 2012 World Cup, only two countries managed to bring home the Futsal World Cup trophy. All events before 2008 were contested by 16 teams. The first events featured 6 teams from Europe, 3 teams from South America, 2 teams from Africa, 2 teams from Asia, 2 teams from North and Central America, and 1 team from Oceania. In 2004, it was divided into 5 European teams, 4 Asian teams (including hosts, competing as Chinese Taipei), 3 South American teams, 2 North and Central American teams, and 1 team each for Africa and Oceania. The 2012 tournament included 24 teams, making it the largest event.
The 2012 edition of the tournament featured 6 group based competition systems, each containing 4 teams. The top two teams in each group, along with the 4 best 3rd-placed teams, advance to the 16-team knockout stage.
Host of Futsal World Cup 2024
Uzbekistan officially hosts the 2024 Futsal World Cup which will be held on September 14-October 6, 2024. Futsal World Cup 2024 group draw
The draw will be held in Summer 2024 in Tashkent. The 24 teams will be drawn into six groups of four, with hosts Uzbekistan automatically seeded in Pot 1 and placed first in Group A.
The draw will start with hosts A1, teams from Pot 1 will be drawn first, teams from Pots 2, 3 and 4 will have to go through groups to avoid geographical clashes and there will be no 2 teams playing from the same confederation. then the draw will end with teams from Pot 4.
